Had a blast the other night at the Lakeside Summer Scream! So nice to experience a 21 and up night at the amusement park with delicious alcoholic beverages and no annoying kids, the way it was originally intended to be 100 years ago. My 3rd time seeing @blink182 live, and this time I finally have a phone that records decent video. So cool to see Anthem Part 3 and Edging so many other new and classic Blink songs live and in person. There's so many other Blink songs I love that I wish they would've included in their setlist. Too bad they couldn't do a 4 hour set.

Had an absolute blast last night seeing my heroes

Had an absolute blast last night seeing my heroes @blink182 with my best friends and my one true love Darla. What an amazing show! I'm so glad @l.j.dougherty was able to come all the way from California to hang out and see the show with us. Last year when I would be sitting for hours in the infusion room doing chemotherapy, I would dream about fast-forwarding my life past all that and getting to moments like these. Man, it feels so good to have finally made it.

Had such an amazing time this weekend in San Francisco visiting my grandma and touring the spooky @winchestermysteryhouse !!! The Winchester house is a must-see for all my fellow horror and haunted house fans. My pictures definitely do not do it justice. I have to go back and see it again around Halloween time.

Universe: So for today, would you rather get a new album from your favorite band? Or a new game from your favorite video game series?

Me: Umm, is it too much to ask for both?

Universe: ... no. Here ya go. 1 new @blink182 album, and 1 new Super Mario game coming right up!

Earlier this year while I was going through chemo two things kept my spirits up, Blink 182 and Super Mario.

@markhoppus has been one of my heroes since I was a kid, and he recently went through lymphoma just like I was going through. Knowing that gave me a ton of comfort and made me feel like I was gonna make it through. The lyrics on all these new Blink songs hit me hard. I can relate to everything they're singing about, all the feelings, all the struggles, all the nostalgia. #OneMoreTime is an amazing album! It's easily the best thing they've made in 22 years. A few weeks ago I got my chest port removed on the same day they released the One More Time single and I was emotional wreck hearing it. It still hits me hard now, but I love it! Blink got me through high school and college and cancer, and they continue to inspire the hell out of me.

The other thing that helped me was catching up on all the Super Mario games I missed over the years while I was too busy adulting to play games. I love how the series goes back and forth between new innovative 3D games, and old school 2D comfort-food side-scrollers. Through chemo and my recovery afterwards, I played Mario 64, Sunshine, Galaxy, the New Super Marios, Mario 3D World, and Odyssey and loved them all. They were a great way to pass the time and reset my brain between chemo treatments that made me feel like shit, and weeks and weeks of grueling editing work for Frankie Graves. They gave me, and continue to give me something fun and bright to look forward to.

Now on this gorgeous fall day I can put cancer behind me and enjoy some amazing fresh new Blink and Mario without all the bad shit going on in the background. What a great day to be alive, with a double dose of awesomeness to enjoy.

David Sodergren @paperbacksandpugs appreciation post!

I used to take pictures of David's books with my pug Vader, but since he died I've fallen behind. So now my cat Penny is standing in for him.

The Haar is my favorite recent David book. It's so strange and creepy, and has such a unique concept. I rank it in my top 3 David Sodergren books, up there with Maggie's Grave and Night Shoot. Highly recommended. My cat is creeping in the tub, imitating the creature in the book.

Navajo Nightmare co-written with @stevestred was great too. I'm not a huge western guy, but I love reading books with historical settings, so I had a lot of fun with it. I gotta check out more Steve Stred books soon.

And By God's Hand You Shall Die. Damn. This book is like one long crazy nightmare. I love how it was set in 1981 like my own 1981 Year of Blood books. I'm glad I was familiar with Fulci movies before I read it, so I understood what David was going for. The moving Jesus carving genuinely creeped me out, those scenes were definitely my favorite parts of the book.
